The Gospel According to Taxes and Fish

This week we are diving into a story that only takes place in the gospel of Matthew but a lot can be taken from it. Because Jesus is the Son of God, He is exempt from paying the temple tax, which in turn is God's tax. However, Jesus chooses to pay this tax anyway so "we don't offend anyone." Christ's choice to take the path of peace and humility is extraordinary, especially when we consider the method He chose to pay this tax. In short, the story as a whole serves as a microcosm of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
